Today we are playing games! I just realized how many dumplings there are… in “Sushi Go”, one of our favorite card games. In Sushi Go, you want to get the most items: maki, sashimi, wasabi, and many more. In OUR card game, “Water Royale,” you want to defeat enemies to get items, and build a well: stone, wood, and a bucket. Just like charity:water would need for a hand-dug well!
“We didn’t Playtest This at All” is a great card game with simple rules. It is also very quick (around 5 minutes). One time, our game lasted only 1 turn! The whole point is to have a good strategy, and have fun. “The Resistance” is another card game, this one is about teams. Tere are two teams: the spies, and the resistance. The aim of the game is to find out who the spies are. This is a good representation of a card game for us, becsuse our game “Water Royale” is very team-based.
The last game we will take a look at today is “One Night: Ultimate Werewolf.” There are many versions of One Night, but in this one, the characters are every simple and easy to understand. Most characters have a special ability. Some can see others’ cards, or even steal them! For our game, each character will have an area where they are more powerful than others. Stay tuned to see which characters have which powers!
Here’s the next step for our card game: research! Research on Charity:Water (our cause), Characters (like heroes and villains), and Card Games (to make it more legit).
We want to do research on Charity:Water so we know what we’re talking about… especially their mission (to bring clean water to people around the world). We checked out the Charity:Water website (www.charitywater.org), to find out what they do, especially the steps to making a “hand dug well.” We want our game to be realistic, and in our game, you want to be the first to build a well. Looking at the Charity:Water website is better than other options, because it is coming straight from the source! You have to read a lot of things, and then you find out that a lot of people don’t have clean water. 663 million people, to be exact!
Researching the characters, like heroes and villains that will be a part of the card game, is important too. We watched the movies and shows, like Harry Potter, Justice League, and the Flash. This will help our game because we can make our characters look more lie the real thing. Lastly, we researched card games, to make it more professional. Games like Sushi Go, Millie Borne, and One Night are good card games because they have simple rules. That way, we can make OUR game (Water Royale!), easy to play for everyone.
Stay tuned for next time where we will take a closer look at some of our favorite card games!
Our new Cartoons for a Cause project will support CHARITY:WATER, bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing countries.
We need to support this cause to bring water to those who need it, around the world. We are going to make a card game, where the objective is to build a well to get water. Even younger kids can learn to understand this global issue of drought and unsafe water, through a fun game.
You can’t really stop water from getting polluted in developing countries. They have to get it from somewhere else! In these developing countries, they can’t always drink the water, clean their clothes, and many more basic needs. Diseases from dirty water kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. That’s why we need to make this card game, and help Charity:Water to provide clean water for those who need it!
Stay tuned for updates on our new project: a card game where you beat enemies and hop universes, and much more!
